On the occasion of her show H-E-L-L-O at Collective, we were delighted to present Cauleen Smith in conversation with artist and producer Emmie McLuskey.

Sound is central to Cauleen Smith’s artwork, with many of her films focusing on music and musicians. Part talk, part listening session, the event focused on the artist's love of music and how she has worked with the sonic in her films.

Cauleen Smith is an American born filmmaker and multimedia artist. She is best known for her experimental works that address the African-American identity, specifically the issues facing black women today. Smith is best known for her feature film Drylongso and currently teaches in the School of Art at the California Institute of the Arts.
